    Bruce van Dongen  is a mechanical engineer. He has been practising yoga for many years and is a qualified  teacher in the Hatha and Kundalini disciplines. He is a Director of The Waterfall Retreat and Environmental Centre and uses both nature and yoga as his soothing systems to balance the pressures of the corporate world.

     
  • Memoir & Mindfulness: Your Path To Freedom And Enlightenment (online)

    wanda hennig smWe all have stories to tell but many of us don’t know where to start. When we meet we will stop, listen, connect (with ourselves), write. The focus will be on two interconnected, transformative practices: mindfulness (presence, “listening”) and memoir / writing / story. My workshop was scheduled to run over these four days. Instead, we will do four one-hour Zoom sessions. Each will start with a centering (presence) practice - followed by guided writing practice. The interaction will be between you and the surprises that appear on your pages. The sessions are designed to flow into and complement one another.

    * For each session I request you bring your whole self, your curiosity and a lightness of being. Also a journal or notebook of choice and pen or pencil.

    1. Being here. Bring (*the above) plus a willingness to jump in and engage with yourself. (June 8, 6pm - 7pm)
    2. Relish and write. Bring (*the above) plus some culinary pleasures. We will practice mindful eating, drinking and writing. (June 9, 6pm - 7pm)
    3. On giving good ear. Bring (*the above) - and your listening skills. (June 10, 6pm - 7pm)
    4. My life under lockdown. Bring (*the above) as we play with the past and present in the now. (June 11, 6pm - 7pm).

    Wanda Hennig is an award-winning food and travel writer who has freelanced extensively for print and online publications both internationally and locally. She worked in South Africa in the newsrooms of the Daily News Sunday Tribune and as bureau chief at Cosmopolitan magazine before going to live in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, she worked on magazines and newspapers, in corporate communications, and in multimedia and social media. She has a post-graduate degree in psychology and a Higher Diploma in Education (both from UKZN) and is a certified Co-Active Life Coach (Coaches Training Institute, California). She lived and practised at the San Francisco Zen Centre for three-and-a-half years in the 1990’s, has been meditating for 30 years, and has run mindfulness, writing and coaching workshops in California and South Africa - including at the BRC. She is the author of Cravings: A Zen-inspired memoir about sensual pleasures, freedom from dark places, and living and eating with abandon Say Yes Press, 2017). See www.wandahennig.com
